How we work across Essex
Whether you live a few streets from us in Southend or out in Brentwood, the same people run your job. Mick visits to price it, stays involved throughout, and is the person you call with questions. We plan our week around the jobs we have on, so distance doesn't change how often we're on site.
Covering a wide area means we know how different councils work, which local suppliers to use, and what kind of homes are common in each town. That helps us give you realistic advice at the first visit.
Getting started
Planning
Planning permission and building control in Essex are handled by local councils, and each has its own local plan and guidance. The basic permitted development rules are the same everywhere in England, but conservation areas, Green Belt land, flood zones and planning conditions on newer estates vary from place to place.
That's why we've grouped the areas we cover by council. When you contact us, we'll check which rules apply to your home before you spend money on drawings.
Our home patch. We work throughout Southend-on-Sea, including Leigh-on-Sea, Westcliff-on-Sea, Chalkwell, Prittlewell, Southchurch, Eastwood, Thorpe Bay and Shoeburyness. Planning here is handled by Southend City Council.
Covering South Benfleet, Hadleigh, Thundersley and Canvey Island. Castle Point Borough Council handles planning, and much of the land between the towns is Green Belt.
Covering Rayleigh, Hockley, Hawkwell, Hullbridge, Ashingdon, Rochford and Great Wakering. Planning is handled by Rochford District Council.
Covering Basildon, Pitsea, Laindon, Wickford and Billericay. Planning is handled by Basildon Borough Council.
Covering Brentwood, Shenfield, Hutton, Ingatestone and the surrounding villages. Planning is handled by Brentwood Borough Council.
Covering Chelmsford, South Woodham Ferrers and nearby villages. Planning is handled by Chelmsford City Council.
