The hidden timberwork that holds a building together: floor joists, stud walls, roof structures, door linings and window boards. We fit it accurately so that everything that goes on top sits square and level.

Many of our extensions, garden rooms and new builds need a timber roof structure, whether a flat roof with joists and decking or a pitched roof with rafters cut to fit. We build them to the engineer's or designer's specification, with the right fixings, straps and ventilation.

In older homes, we repair and replace rotten or damaged floor joists and boards, strengthen floors that bounce, and level uneven floors before new coverings go down.

A well-hung door closes cleanly, with even gaps all round. We hang new doors, rehang old ones that stick or drop, and fit handles, hinges and locks to match.

Some doors need to be fire doors, for example between a house and an integral garage, or on the stairs of a three-storey home. Fire doors must be fitted with the correct frames, gaps, seals and closers to work properly, and we fit them to the manufacturer's instructions.

We fit new staircases, repair creaking or damaged treads, and replace old balustrades with new spindles, handrails or glass panels. Staircases have to meet building regulations for rise, going, headroom and handrail height, especially in loft rooms and new builds, and we make sure yours does.

In period homes, we can repair original staircases rather than replace them, matching spindles and newel posts so the repair blends in.
